If you need a great resource to learn more about animals then may I suggest Moose and Magpie? This beautifully illustrated hard cover book will bring hours of enjoyment to your children as you both learn about moose and magpies in an entertaining story. The illustrations are life-like but will entertain young children because of the vivid colors and oftentimes humorous add ins, like a raccoon eating chocolate mousse. You'll follow Moose as he travels along growing up and asking various animals and magpie jokes, all with the punch lines being related back to moose. This is a fun way to introduce facts about moose: One such joke is "do moose eat chocolate mousse?"

The punch line is funny but educational, "Moose wouldn't eat mousse. They're herbivores."

Throughout the book are little boxes that include facts about what was just read on that page, so for example on the page with the joke about herbivores, the box tells what an herbivore is. These little informative tidbits can be read along with the story or thrown in afterward so your child or children don't become confused. When you purchase the book you'll get a link to extra teaching tools online that can be utilized, such as interactive quizzes. After the story, more details on the moose and birds, eating habits of moose, antlers, and fun facts are given. A game for matching moose body parts as well as a life cycle of the moose is also at the end of the story. This book provides a great teaching tool or even just an unassuming way to teach without the child knowing that learning is happening.
